Partners from Eurecat, the MED4Youth’s coordinator, presented the project during different sessions organised in two public health centres of the area of Tarragona and celebrated from 16th to 17th of January 2023.

The presentation, titled “MED4Youth project: Mediterranean Diet and obesity in adolescents”, introduced the main objectives of the project, as well as some results achieved during the interventional study carried out with teenagers with obesity from Spain, Portugal and Italy.

Antoni Caimari, director of the Biotechnology Area of Eurecat and MED4Youth’s principal investigator, and Lorena Calderón, researcher at the Nutrition and Health Unit of Eurecat, participated in the first session, which was celebrated in the public health centre of Cambrils (Tarragona). More then 25 health professionals, doctors, nurses and nutritionists, participated in this session.

On the other hand, Nàdia Ortega, director of the Technology Unit of Nutrition and Health of Eurecat, and Lorena Calderón presented the project during the session hosted by the public health centre of Reus (Tarragona).

The MED4Youth study has the ambition to demonstrate that a Mediterranean diet enriched with products typical of the Mediterranean, such as pomegranate, chickpeas/hummus, nuts and sourdough bread, is more effective in maintaining an optimal weight and healthy habits than a conventional low-fat diet among adolescents.
