Researchers from 6 institutions and companies from 5 Mediterranean countries met on January 30-31 at Eurecat’s facilities in Barcelona to launch the MED4Youth project, which aims to strengthen the link between the Mediterranean Diet and the health benefits against youth obesity and associated cardiovascular disease risk factors.  The project also has the objective to develop a multicentre clinical study to elucidate whether the health effects of the Mediterranean Diet are associated with changes in gut microbiota and gut-derived metabolites.

During the meeting, presentations were made by each of participating institutions to explain what tasks they will perform and what responsibilities they will have.

Project Officer, Mohamed Wageih, representing PRIMA programme attended this kick off meeting in order to explain to the partners how they will have to do the reporting and monitoring of the project.

The kick off meeting was also attended by all consortium partners with representatives from Eurecat, MED4Youth’s project coordinator, the University of Parma (Italy), the University of Coimbra (Portugal), the Scientific Food Centre (Jordan), Shikma Field Crops (Israel) and NOVAPAN (Spain).
